Taxi Service

Taxi service is available throughout the city and can cost anywhere from $5 - $20. A taxi shared ride program (up to 4 passengers) is in effect at McCormick Place Convention Center from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. each day. A fare of $7 per person will apply to all shared rides during this period. Passengers will be grouped according to their destination. For wheelchair accessible vehicles, please call United Dispatch at 1-800-281-4466.

Below is a listing of how taxicab fares are determined and paid in the City of Chicago as of April 28, 2008:

  • The "flag pull" or initial charge is $2.25 for the first 1/9 mile
  • The additional fraction of a mile is charge is $.20 for each additional 1/9 mile
  • Every 36 seconds of time elapsed is $.20
  • The flat fee for the first additional passenger is $1.00
  • The flat fee for each additional passenger, after the first additional passenger is $.50
  • An additional $1.00 surcharge will apply to all cab fares
  • Tipping is customary for good service
